| Images for children may be pleasing to adults but with purposes other than art made for grownups.
Well planned children's illustrations have story lines. "What's happening?", in the image entitles kids to interpret, expand, re-tell, even pretend play. Adults, believe it or not, tend to want simpler images with a primary message. Young people crave the fantasy of things outside their world. Experiences which can involve basic skills, such as colors, numbers, creatures and actions are as real as can be reached for. Busy images for children enthrall instead of tire. Illustrating for children allows me, as an adult artist, to portray playtime. We can play with children through art. |
